Nanopore technology

Nanopore technology uses nanoscale pores to observe molecules through changes in electrical current, ion flow, or related measurable signals. A nanopore can be biological, such as a protein pore embedded in a membrane, or solid-state, fabricated from materials such as silicon nitride or graphene.

Core idea

When a molecule passes through or interacts with a nanopore, it partially blocks or modifies the signal across the pore. The resulting signal pattern can provide information about molecular size, charge, structure, sequence, or binding behavior.

Major directions

  • Nanopore sequencing for DNA and RNA analysis.
  • Single-molecule detection for proteins, peptides, small molecules, and biomarkers.
  • Portable sensing systems for field, clinical, environmental, and food-safety use cases.
  • Long-read genomics and real-time data analysis workflows.
